Snow on the ground. Makes my world less dark. Too bad it melts so soon. Is it only my imagination or didn’t it use to be more snow and longer winters when I was growing up ? At least that is how I remember it, but can I trust my memory?
Sometimes people around me talk about matters I should remember, situations, places and names, and I don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Does it mean I wasn’t there or that the harddrive we call the brain needed the space for some other memory information and erased the one that other brains have saved ? This is something I ought to talk to my brother about. He knows a lot more about the workings of the brain and of memory.
I am more interested in the cultural aspect of memories, and more to the point collective memory. What is remembered by society, by a country, a people, and which memories are chosen to become collective and preserved and which are doomed to be forgotten, and why ? When is the selection made? Who makes it? And the follow up is of course how do we know or collective memory is not corrupted or simply false ? Can we tell the difference ? Does it matter or am I just paranoid on this nice Thursday in January 2009 ? Can I be sure it is January, why is it January and why is it Thursday and why am I not doing something more productive? Questions , Questions , Questions…. Who has the answers? Do I want to know them?
Enough is enough !
